On the morning of August 23, the Sooseok Culture Foundation announced that the '2019 Academic Year Scholarship Awards Ceremony' had been held at the main auditorium of the Yongdu-dong headquarters in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul.

President Han Jong-hyun of Dong-A Socio Holdings, Chairman Eom Dae-sig of Dong-A ST, and President Choi Ho-jin of Dong-A Pharm attended the event along with other company representatives.

The Sooseok Culture Foundation presented the scholarship certificate to the 34 scholarship students (26 university and 8 high school students) to whom it will grant scholarships amounting to about 65 million KRW.

In a bid to provide practical help to university students in economic difficulty, the Sooseok Culture Foundation signed business agreements in the first half of this year with three organizations, namely the Seoul Association of Rehabilitation Welfare Center, the Metropolis of Seoul Association of Child Welfare, and the Seoul Pharmaceutical Association.

Each organization selects university students armed with the determination needed to continue their studies even in difficult circumstances, while the Sooseok Culture Foundation provides them with scholarships. Of the 34 scholarship students selected this year, 24 university students were selected for the first time under this agreement, and they will receive scholarships from the Sooseok Culture Foundation until they graduate from university.

The Sooseok Culture Foundation was established in 1987 to foster responsible talents who are willing to work for others and contribute to the development of society. Since its establishment, the foundation has provided scholarships worth a combined total of KRW 3,800 million to 1,761 students (as of last year).

An executive of the Sooseok Culture Foundation said, “By providing substantial economic assistance, we aim to help students who may one day lead the future of Korea to study without any worries. To that end, we will actively implement scholarship programs to benefit more students in the future.”

Besides the scholarship program, the Sooseok Culture Foundation is also sponsoring various activities aimed at promoting academia and culture. Its activities include the Hamchun Dong-A Medical Prize, Pharmacist Gold Tower Prize, and the Marronnier National Women’s Writing Contest.
